The Chief Justice is the highest-ranking position within the UAlbany Student Association Supreme Court, serving as the administrative and judicial leader of the Court. The Chief Justice is responsible for presiding over all Supreme Court hearings and deliberations, ensuring fair and impartial adjudication of cases.

Chief Justice Steven Jimenez brings a wealth of experience to his leadership role. He is both a Political Science and Economics major, and has interned for the New York State Unified Court System’s Third Judicial Departments in both Ulster County Supreme Court and Albany County Supreme Court. Chief Justice Jimenez also served the Student Association Supreme Court as an Associate Justice and then the Deputy Chief Justice.

“The Chief Justice shall be the chief administrator of the Court, schedule hearings, distribute briefs, and run the hearings of the Court, create applications for all petitions and writs with proper restrictions necessary for all petitioners and make them available to all Student Association groups and members, have signatory power over the funding of the Supreme Court, and be responsible for overseeing the creation of procedures for the hearing of the Court.”

The Deputy Chief Justice is the second highest-ranking position within the UAlbany Student Association Supreme Court, serving as the administrative and judicial leader of the Court. The Deputy Chief Justice also plays a pivotal role in shaping the judicial policies for the Supreme Court.

Deputy Chief Justice Gabrielle Samson brings unique experiences to her leadership role. She is both a Political Science and Africana Studies major, and has interned as a Junior Clerk at Yonkers City Hall, where she has been instrumental in managing constituent services and assisting with social media and community events. Deputy Chief Justice Samson also served the Student Association Supreme Court as an Associate Justice for two years before entering into her Deputy Chief Justice role.

“The Deputy Chief Justice shall assume all duties and responsibilities of the Chief Justice should they so designate or in the event Chief Justice is unable to discharge their duties, serve as Acting-Chief Justice, and be addressed as such, should the Office of Chief Justice of the Student Association be vacated, until a new Chief Justice can be elected.”
