The Department of Academic and Professional Affairs advocates for student academic concerns and partner with various student organizations and departments on campus to host engaging programming including professional development and international perspectives.

Mariannie Matos, a junior majoring in Homeland Security with minors in Public Health and Legal Studies at the University at Albany, is the current Director of the Department of Academic & Professional Affairs for the Student Association. Driven by a passion for law, domestic terrorism, and public health, Mariannie is on a quest to forge meaningful changes in these pivotal fields. With practical experience from internships at the NYS Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, and the NYS Executive Chamber Office of the Chief Disability Officer, she has honed her skills in risk mitigation, inclusivity, and accessibility. Her political campaign involvement has further enriched her understanding of policy and governance. As a campus leader and advocate for over 13,000 peers, Mariannie is dedicated to elevating student concerns and is actively seeking opportunities to expand her impact in law, domestic terrorism, and healthcare.     Akeem Simpson currently serves as the Associate Director of the Department of Academic & Professional Affairs at the University at Albany Student Association. With a robust academic background as a Political Science major and a double minor in Philosophy and Legal Studies, Akeem exemplifies the pinnacle of academic dedication and intellectual curiosity. His academic journey is complemented by his role, where he is deeply involved in enhancing the academic and professional landscape for his peers. Akeem's commitment to fostering a community of informed, engaged, and proactive individuals is evident in his efforts to bridge the gap between student needs and institutional offerings.

    Myles Province is the current Project Manager for the Department of Academic and Professional Affairs at the University at Albany, SUNY. As a junior majoring in English with a minor in Criminal Justice, Myles brings a unique blend of analytical skills, critical thinking, and a keen understanding of the law to his role. His academic pursuits provide him with a solid foundation in both the literary and legal realms, allowing him to effectively communicate complex ideas and foster a culture of academic excellence and professional development among his peers.
