DEPARTMENT OF GENDER & SEXUALITY SERVICES |
Director Phoenix Hernandez
Appointed by President Jalen Rose sagendersexuality@albany.edu
The Department of Gender & Sexuality Services works to put on fun programs for the community as well as advocates on behalf of LGBTQ+ students and faculty. The Department aims to make it easier for LGBTQ+ folks to navigate the University and life outside campus.
Phoenix Hernandez is the Director of Gender and Sexuality Services for the University at Albany Student Association. Originally from Hudson Falls, NY, Phoenix is passionate about advocating for queer and transgender students on campus. As a leader within the LGBTQ+ community, they are committed to creating safe, inclusive spaces where students can connect, feel supported, and thrive. They are also an active brother of Alpha Phi Omega, serving as the New Member Educator (NME) and Rush Chair, where they help foster leadership and community service. Additionally, Phoenix works as a Connections Peer Educator at the Women’s Resource Center (WRC), further demonstrating their dedication to promoting inclusivity and supporting students in need.
One of Phoenix’s key goals as Director is to advocate for the hiring of a queer/trans specialist within the university’s Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), to ensure that LGBTQ+ students have access to mental health professionals who understand their unique experiences and challenges.
