Student Legal Services of the Student Association (SLS) is a legal service funded by the mandatory undergraduate Student Activity Fee, providing legal assistance to eligible University at Albany undergraduates.
SLS does not provide any assistance to students whose legal interests conflict with those of another student.
SLS offers an annual Internship for academic credit with the School of Criminal Justice (RCRJ 423).

What can Student Legal Services (SLS) do?
For eligible students, Student Legal Services (SLS) offers a range of services, including consultations, pre-law advice, notary services, and trial-level representation for misdemeanors and violations. We also provide representation in eviction cases (Summary Proceedings) in various local courts in Albany County.
Court representation is created by a "Representation letter" only. Without a Representation letter no one is represented by SLS.
Services are provided according to the Rules of Professional Conduct and SLS' “2024-2025 Eligibility” policy.
Identification and Proof of eligible student status: https://www.albany.edu/registrar/students/enrollment-verification.
SLS may refuse assistance to anyone and may alter its services without notice.
How do I get there?
Student Legal Services (SLS) is located in Campus Center West in Room B83, which can be tough to locate.
In the hallway that exits out to Dutch Circle, the office is located to the right of the doorway as if you’re leaving the CC, or it’s to your immediate left if you’re entering the CC through this doorway.
The Student Legal Services are located next to the Women’s Resource Center and across the main hallway from the Multicultural Resource Center.
Still can’t find it? Just come in to the Student Association office in CC West and we can help direct you to it.
SLS' seeks to minimize student academic distraction and maximize student success. Its approach is legal education and empowerment ensuring that students understand their legal rights and responsibilities.
